About

Cooking can seem to be intimidating. Getting the right proportions, cooking time and ensuring that the food appeals to all senses may appear to be challenging, but this blog will attempt to make that challenge a little bit easier.

This is a beginners guide to Indian cooking. I have attempted to address the most basic challenges for someone trying to don a chef hat- the best resources for first time chefs- this includes websites and online cookery shows, the best way to understand ingredients and their health benefits, and some basic recipes-right from boiling potatoes to frying onions.

Many believe that cooking is better left to those who possess the magic in their hands, but another philosophy that I am inclined towards is what Chef Gusteau says in the movie Ratatouille, “Anyone can cook!”. And my agreement with this line of thought stems from the fact that the first time I made a meal was in late 2011. And there has been no looking back. What more, the only resources I had available to me were the internet, and my mother on the phone.

Essentially, this is a compilation of all the resources I found and some of my mother’s tips coupled with my experiences and experiments. I hope this makes the learning experience that much more fun for you!

Happy cooking!
