GM Diet Day 2

Continuing on the experience of going through the GM diet, today is Day 2. A strict vegetables only diet is prescribed for today. I feel that it is a much easier day than yesterday since surviving on vegetables alone is easier than surviving on fruits alone.

To compensate for lack of carbs in the diet and to provide a little energy, you are allowed a baked potato with a pat of butter. This is optional to the diet, but I was really craving carbs by day 2 and would not give up this chance for anything. I made mine a little interesting with a pinch of salt, pepper and red chilly powder. After having the potato, I felt really great- it was like I was filling a hole in my stomach!

Here is the method. First thoroughly wash the potato with water and a scrub brush. Then use a fork and needle it (make holes in it) and soak in salty water for about 10 minutes. Then, microwave for 3 minutes. After that, bake it in the oven for about 20 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Now, top it with a bit of butter or cheese, a bit of pepper and a pinch of red chilly powder and your potato is ready to eat. You can use other spices if you like but keep it to a minimum. Salt and spices usually interfere with the cleansing process and are recommended to be kept to a minimum for this reason, but I believe it just makes it easier to follow the diet if you use a little bit. Not only does it add flavor, it also makes for better variety. If you make a batch of vegetables, flavor one with salt and pepper and the other with lemon juice and oregano.

Baked Potato

Following this, the rest of the day is pure vegetables. I made sautéed vegetables in abo9ut 1 tsp of oil as prescribed. You can have raw vegetables too, if you prefer. Add salt, pepper, chaat masala and a bit of lemon juice. I made this with a pack of frozen vegetables. Mine had corn but I later found that corn is not a vegetable, it is a grain. So, avoid corn if you can.

Sauteed vegetables

This is allowed in unlimited quantities through the day. But, variety is the best way to stick to a diet. So, make a few other things, such as sautéed peas, or a fresh green salad. Try and use as little oil as possible. I only used a teaspoon in the preparation I described above.

I spent the evening munching on raw baby carrots. They are great for munching and really healthy. No salt or oil!

Day 2 is much easier than day 1, since the body is used to the different diet. The carbs in the morning potato really helped. I went through the day with better energy, and found it much easier to consume the water quantity required. I guess this was because I had already spent one day having more water than usual, and now my body was adjusting to this new pattern.

Weight loss is not very significant today. Still at 1 kilogram like yesterday. Hoping tomorrow will be better. Most people find their weight loss continues through to Day 5, but I guess it makes more sense to just weigh yourself in the beginning and then at the end, since weight will usually vary during the day and from day to day.

Day 3 should be better for variety- you are allowed fruits and vegetables, so you can do fruits for breakfast and the evening snack, and sautéed vegetables for lunch and dinner. Will keep you posted.
